Olympic Park Guided Tour with Jaki!

If you missed our Olympic Park Tour earlier in the year, here’s another chance to come along and explore this fascinating part of London! Built in Stratford for the 2012 Olympic Games, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is now a huge mixed-use destination filled with striking architecture, sports and arts venues, green spaces and reminders of its Olympic legacy – and it’s even bigger than Hyde Park. Jaki, a trained guide during the Games, will lead us on a stroll through the park, sharing first-hand memories, interesting facts and insights along the way. We’ll meet at Tottenham Hale Station at 11am for the quick hop to Stratford before setting off on the tour, a great opportunity to discover more about a remarkable site right on our doorstep. It’s about an hour’s walk.

NEW Knitting and Crochet Circle!

We continue our crochet,  knitting and textile craft get-together! Join us from 2pm onwards and bring along your mending, knitting, crochet or any other textile project you’re working on. We welcome people of all abilities, whether you’re experienced or just getting started. If you would like to join our WhatsApp group, see here: Knitting, Crochet and Textiles Circle WhatsApp Group

We’ll be meeting at the wonderful Sean’s Shack café at Hornsey Town Hall, a hidden Art Deco gem tucked away just beyond the entrance to the hall, and a lovely spot to spend an afternoon crafting together. For reference, the W7 stops outside, with the 91 and 41 stopping nearby, drop by to check it!

RETURNING Batik Sessions (4/4 weeks)*

We are bringing back our popular Batik sessions for another four-week course! Batik is a beautiful traditional textile art using wax and dyes to create colourful patterns and designs on fabric, a wonderfully creative process to explore, whether or not you consider yourself artistic. This time, priority will be given to members who haven’t had the chance to take part before, but everyone is very welcome to register their interest. Depending on demand, we may even be able to offer additional sessions.

Please note that registration is for all four weeks, so do make sure you can attend the full course before booking your place. Come along, learn the techniques and enjoy creating your own unique textile pieces!

Cinema Club: Tenzing (2026)

Next week, join us at Cinema Club for an inspiring and breathtaking journey to the roof of the world. Tenzing tells the remarkable story of Tenzing Norbu, the Himalayan guide whose courage, determination and mountaineering mastery helped make the historic 1953 Everest expedition possible. Featuring powerful performances from Genden Phuntsok, Tom Hiddleston and Willem Dafoe, and directed by Jennifer Peedom, this epic film celebrates a remarkable life, the spirit of adventure and the extraordinary people behind one of history’s greatest achievements. Don’t miss this gripping and uplifting story on the big screen!

Please note that all Cinema Club members are required to present their Cinema Club card on arrival. If you have not yet received your card or wish to join the Cinema Club officially, please contact us or talk to a volunteer on site so we can arrange this for you. Cards are not transferable.

RETURNING Drama workshops*

Our Drama workshops are again under way at Haringey Circle, and we are well into our second programme! It’s again led by Collage Arts Artistic Director Steve Medlin. Each class explores text-based work alongside devising and creating original work, with a particular focus on helping each participant find their own “voice”. No previous experience is needed,  just an open mind and a willingness to play!

We will continue to welcome new participants, although consistency of attendance is required – so if you’re interested in joining the group, please get in touch with us for more details.

Discounted Tickets: Black Liverpool, A Film, Book Launch & Conversation

For Black History Month, we’re happy to promote discounted tickets for just £3 for this special evening, Black Liverpool: Film, Book Launch & Q&A, with Professor Stephen Small. The event offers a fascinating opportunity to explore the rich and distinctive history of Liverpool’s Black community through rare archive film, extracts from Professor Small’s new book, and a Q&A and discussion. Drawing on decades of research and first-hand experience, Professor Small explores the influence of Africa, the Caribbean and the United States on Black life and culture in Liverpool, as well as themes of identity, politics, music, community and social change.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about a unique part of Black British history and hear directly from someone with deep personal and academic connections to Liverpool. To access the discount, register through our form and we’ll send you the discount code you need to book your ticket.

Tai Chi (beginners, intermediate and returners!), EXTENDED!

After a two-week break, Tai Chi is back! With the extended sessions and with Heron returning on Monday 26th, we can get moving again. Join us to stretch, relax and enjoy the many benefits of this gentle, mindful practice. Sessions will take place outdoors when the weather allows or move indoors to a ground-floor studio if the weather dictates.

If you have doubts or interest, read this recent Guardian article highlighting the largest review of its kind into Tai Chi and other traditional exercises. The findings suggest they have huge benefits for both physical and mental health! NEW French Conversation Drop In

Fancy brushing up your French while enjoying a coffee and a chat? Starting 27th October at 11am, we’re trying out an informal French-speaking drop-in at Ratatouille. Please note that this is not a French lesson, it’s simply an opportunity to meet other members, practise speaking French, and enjoy some conversation in a relaxed setting.

Whether you’re fluent, a little rusty, or somewhere in between, you’re very welcome! There’s no set format,  just come along, enjoy a coffee or cake, and join in the conversation. We’ll see how the first session goes, and if there’s enough interest, we can make it a monthly gathering, or even more regular if members would like it. Come along, say bonjour, and give your French a little workout!

Celebrating Black History Month: a Special Storytelling Evening with Baden

Join us on Tuesday 27th October evening at North London Community House for a special Black History Month storytelling evening with Baden Prince. Come along for an engaging and thought-provoking event celebrating stories, experiences and heritage. And for football fans, there’s an added bonus, you can watch the England match at the venue beforehand! A wonderful opportunity to enjoy an evening of culture, community and conversation. The event is FREE.

Another chance at Trent Park House, History Behind the Doors!*

Our first date this month sold out, but we’re delighted to have negotiated an additional visit for Circle members. Members currently on the waiting list will be given priority, with any remaining places then made available to other members. Our members thoroughly enjoyed our October visit to this recently opened exhibition at this historic house. Come discover its fascinating story, including its remarkable role during the Second World War when it was used to hold senior Nazi military officers, while their conversations were secretly monitored and recorded. Circle members can enjoy the visit for just £7, half the usual £14 ticket price, a great opportunity!

Dining Circle: a French late lunch at Ratatouille!*

If you enjoyed our last restaurant outings, you won’t want to miss this one! We’re planning another delicious dining experience at a restaurant that promises wonderful food, excellent service and a lovely atmosphere. It’s the perfect opportunity to indulge in a fabulous three-course meal while enjoying great company and conversation at the favourite Ratatouille restaurant.

Spaces will be strictly limited, so keep an eye out for registration opening next week. This is one you won’t want to miss, come hungry and bring your appetite for good food and good company!

Garden Talks (and demonstration!): preparing for Christmas*

Save the dates as we’re planning further Garden Talks this year, including a festive wreath-making demonstration by the wonderful, engaging and knowledgeable Ali at the centre. Join us for seasonal inspiration, creative ideas and a chance to get into the Christmas spirit with fellow members. Registrations aren’t open just yet, so keep an eye out for more details coming soon!
