Dear Members,
We hope you’re all keeping well and even enjoying a spot of rain at last, in the last few weeks of this hot summer! We’ve got lots coming up over the next few weeks, from walks and lunches, to cinema, Tai Chi, dancing and even the much anticipated trip to Brighton, so hopefully there’s something here to tempt you along.
As always, do remember to register, and register just once please (!) for each event you’re planning to attend, and you are welcome to attend as many as you want. Registering helps us keep track of numbers and plan properly, even for events that are open to all members. If an event requires confirmation of your place, this will be clearly marked with an asterisk (*) and stated in the event information; for all other events, you may not receive a confirmation email, but we still really appreciate you letting us know you’re coming!
Take a look at what’s coming up below, and we hope to see you soon!

Sunday Wellness & Nature Walk: Trent Park
This weekend, we’re saying goodbye to August with a walk through the beautiful woodlands and open spaces of Trent Park. There may be a touch of very light drizzle along the way, but nothing that should dampen the spirits, especially when you’re walking in good company! We usually have a few different walking paces, so you can find a group that suits you and enjoy the route at your own speed. And, of course, we always come back together afterwards for a hot drink, a refreshing break and a chance to catch up.
August Bank Holiday Lunch
As our tradition goes, we’re heading back to The Mossy Well this next Bank Holiday! Join us for lunch, friendly conversation and plenty of laughs as we continue one of our favourite regular get-togethers. Whether you’re catching up with old friends or meeting new ones, everyone is welcome, come along and enjoy the Bank Holiday with great company. We would love to see as many of you as possible!
Garden Talks: Planning for Spring Bulbs!*
As you may have noticed, spring bulbs are already appearing in the shops, even in August! For keen gardeners, this means there are plenty of choices to make, but knowing what to choose and when and how to plant them can make all the difference. Find out which bulbs are worth picking, how to get the best from them, and all the essential do’s and don’ts for a colourful display come spring. Join us once again for expert advice from the amazing Ali at Ally Pally Garden Centre, it’s a great opportunity to pick up some helpful tips, ask your questions and get ready for the season ahead!
Summer Evening Stroll, Highgate Wood!
Join us later in the week for a Summer Evening Stroll, this time through the beautiful Highgate Wood! As the summer evenings continue to stretch on, it’s the perfect time to slow down, get some fresh air and enjoy a relaxed walk among the trees. And, as always, it’s about more than just the walk, we’ll probably have a drink & a chat before returning home.
Cinema Club: “I Want Your Sex” (2026), subtitled.
For the first time, next week’s Cinema Club is offering two different films to choose from, including I Want Your Sex (2026. A young assistant, Elliot (Cooper Hoffman), becomes the sexual muse of his boss, the famous artist Erika Tracy (Olivia Wilde). Their intense BDSM dynamic draws him into a complicated world of power, obsession and, before long, a sudden murder investigation.
We are told it is very funny in places, with brilliant performances from Hoffman and Wilde, but the film is also bold and very explicit, hence its 18 certificate. If you’re looking for something provocative, stylish and decidedly different for your Cinema Club outing, this could be the one for you?
Cinema Club: “Lady” (2025)
Our second option for next week’s Cinema Club is Lady (2025), a wonderfully quirky and off-beat comedy starring Sian Clifford (Fleabag), who is absolutely brilliant in the lead role. She plays a lonely, eccentric aristocrat who becomes determined to put herself in the spotlight, with increasingly surreal and unexpected results.
Blending mockumentary, comedy and magical realism, Lady is funny, strange and very original, while also gently poking fun at our desire to be noticed and feel seen. Unpredictable, unique and hilarious, it’s a great choice if you fancy something a little different, but not so bold!
Please note: outside food and drinks are not permitted in the venue. As you know, Arthouse loves our Circle members, but the venue is also a café and bar, with a wide range of food, snacks and drinks available to purchase. We’d really appreciate it if everyone could respect this. Many thanks for your understanding!
Tai Chi (beginners, intermediate and returners!), EXTENDED!
Following the popular launch of our Tai Chi sessions, we’re pleased to announce that we are extending the sessions into September. Moving forward, we ask all members to register again and select the dates they plan to attend. This is important so we can plan each session properly and ensure we have the right numbers!
You may have spotted the recent Guardian article highlighting the largest review of its kind into Tai Chi and other traditional exercises. The findings suggest these gentle forms of movement can help with balance, mobility and overall wellbeing, with benefits that may extend to both physical and mental health, so why not give it a try? Everyone is welcome! See full article here: The Guardian: Largest review of its kind confirms benefits of tai chi and other Chinese exercises
Seaside Escape: Coach Trip to Brighton! *
Following a very enjoyable first visit to Margate, we’re excited to announce that our next coach trip will be heading to Brighton! We hope and expect to have space for as many members as possible, and we’ll be in touch shortly with confirmations and full details.
