Recently, the State of Ageing in 2025 report was published, and we have taken a close interest in its findings. We have come to see that while many people in England are living longer, “healthier” lives and continuing to work, this experience is far from shared by everyone.
How well we age is strongly shaped by where we live, with deep and growing regional inequalities affecting health, income, housing, employment in later life and more factors. Older people in some parts of the country can expect to live significantly shorter lives, spend more years in poor health, face higher levels of poverty, and live in homes that damage their wellbeing.

At Haringey Circle, this report tells us a great deal about why local connection, mutual support and valuing older people’s voices matter so much in challenging inequality and supporting people to age well in our community. This is especially important given our ageing population, as shown in the graph above, and the growing need to ensure later life is lived with dignity, security and connection.
